AI & Technology Disclosure

1. How NookScan Protocol Uses AI

NookScan Protocol™ uses a combination of named third-party AI services and proprietary deterministic rule-based engines to evaluate document compliance. This page discloses which AI technologies are used, what data each service receives, and how your document data is protected.

2. Third-Party AI Services

The following external AI services are used during document analysis. Each receives the minimum data necessary to perform its function:

Google Gemini AI

Model: gemini-2.5-flash · Provider: Google LLC

Gemini AI performs visual and textual compliance analysis including signature detection, field identification, and notarial execution review. It receives both extracted document text and rendered page images (for visual ink detection on scanned documents).

  • Data received: Document text and page images
  • Purpose: AI-powered compliance analysis
  • Training use: Your data is not used to train or improve Google's AI models under our API agreement
  • Governed by: Google Gemini API Terms of Service

Google Cloud Vision OCR

Service: Cloud Vision API · Provider: Google LLC

Cloud Vision performs optical character recognition (OCR) on scanned or image-based PDFs where the document contains insufficient embedded text for analysis. It receives rendered page images and returns extracted text, which is then passed to the compliance engines.

  • Data received: Page images (only for scanned/image-based documents)
  • Purpose: Text extraction from scanned documents
  • Training use: Extracted text is not retained by Google beyond the API request lifecycle
  • Governed by: Google Cloud Privacy Notice

3. 14 Proprietary Compliance Engines

In addition to the third-party AI services above, NookScan Protocol runs 14 proprietary compliance engines entirely on our own infrastructure (Firebase Cloud Functions, Google Cloud). These engines apply deterministic rule-based logic to evaluate signatures, jurisdictional requirements, field completeness, notarial execution integrity, and cross-document consistency. They do not involve any external AI providers.

Each engine is purpose-built for a specific compliance domain and operates independently to ensure comprehensive, layered coverage. All 14 engines run in parallel to produce your compliance report.

4. What AI Can and Cannot Do

AI analysis in NookScan Protocol is capable of:

  • Visually detecting the presence or absence of ink signatures and initials on document pages
  • Identifying document fields, blank areas, notary seals, and date entries
  • Extracting and analyzing text from both digital and scanned documents
  • Recognizing document types and applying jurisdiction-appropriate compliance rules

AI analysis has known limitations:

  • AI may not detect all signature placements on complex or non-standard document layouts
  • OCR accuracy may vary on low-resolution scans or handwritten documents
  • Jurisdictional rules change over time; results reflect the rule set at the time of scan
  • AI cannot assess the legal validity of a signature or the identity of a signer
  • Results are not a substitute for professional legal review

5. AI Assists — It Does Not Replace Professional Judgment

NookScan Protocol results do not constitute legal advice. AI is used to assist compliance analysis — it does not replace the professional judgment of a licensed attorney or qualified compliance officer. NookScan reports are informational tools designed to surface potential issues and provide actionable remediation guidance.

Users should have all compliance results reviewed by a qualified professional before acting on them. The Company is not a law firm and does not provide legal representation or counsel.

6. Deterministic & Consistent Results

NookScan's rule-based compliance engines produce deterministic results: identical document inputs will always produce identical compliance outputs from the rule-based layers. This ensures reliability and auditability across your workflow. AI-powered layers (Gemini) may have minor variance across API versions; we version-pin the model to maintain consistency.

7. Human Oversight & Engine Updates

Our analysis engines are regularly reviewed and updated by compliance professionals to reflect changes in jurisdictional requirements, notarial standards, and regulatory guidance. NookScan Protocol is actively maintained — not a static black box. Engine version information is included in every compliance report for full traceability.

8. Data Security & Privacy

Document data is transmitted to Google Gemini AI and Google Cloud Vision solely for the purpose of generating your compliance report. It is not sold, shared with other third parties, or used for any purpose beyond analysis. Neither Google Gemini AI nor Google Cloud Vision uses your submitted document data to train or improve their AI models under our API agreement.

Your original uploaded document is processed and stored temporarily on Firebase Cloud Storage during the scan job. The resulting compliance report (containing extracted findings, scores, and recommendations) is stored in your account history in Firestore for as long as your account remains active. You may delete individual reports from your dashboard at any time.

For full details on data handling, retention, and your rights, see our Privacy Policy.
